Across his working life he also served in voluntary positions for various environmental organisations, from the RSPB to WWF UK. Peter was a passionate believer in the need to combine direct action with reasoned scientific argument.īefore Greenpeace, he had spent much of the 1970s in politics with the Labour party as a minister in the House of Lords, and after Greenpeace he made his biggest mark as policy director for the Soil Association, the charity that champions organic farming and sustainable forestry. During his time there, Greenpeace also began to harness scientific evidence to convince industry to use alternatives to chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in order to protect the ozone layer. As its chairman and then executive director from 1986 to 2001, Peter oversaw many high-profile campaigns – including those concerned with whaling, nuclear waste at Sellafield and the dismantling of the Brent Spar oil platform by Shell in 1995. ![]() The acquittal came during a transformational period for Greenpeace UK. ![]()

When it comes to the painterly production in the UK, the figure that sparks the most attention is definitely Glenn Brown. ![]() ![]() Nevertheless, very few artists manage to construct a signature aesthetics that secures a special spot in the hall of fame. Contemporary painting abounds with numerous approaches, practices, and stylistic conceptions. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Tilney austen![]() From the first, her works unite subtlety and common sense, good humor and acute moral judgment, charm and conciseness, deftly marshaled incident and carefully rounded character.Īusten’s detractors have spoken of her as a “limited” novelist, one who, writing in an age of great men and important events, portrays small towns and petty concerns, who knows (or reveals) nothing of masculine occupations and ideas, and who reduces the range of feminine thought and deed to matrimonial scheming and social pleasantry. ![]() ![]() Meticulously conscious of her artistry (as, for example, is Henry James), Austen is also unremittingly attentive to the realities of ordinary human existence (as is, among others, Anthony Trollope). Jane Austen’s (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) novels-her “bits of ivory,” as she modestly and perhaps half-playfully termed them-are unrivaled for their success in combining two sorts of excellence that all too seldom coexist. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Kubica the other mrs![]() ![]() Baines, the more she begins to realize just how much she has to lose if the truth ever comes to light. Mr Nickleby's income, at the period of his marriage, fluctuated between sixty and eighty pounds per annum. Some ill-conditioned persons, who sneer at the life-matrimonial, may perhaps suggest in this place that the good couple would be better likened to two principals in a sparring match, who, when fortune is low and backers scarce, will chivalrously set to, for the mere pleasure of the buffeting and in one respect indeed this comparison would hold good, for as the adventurous pair of the Fives' Court will afterwards send round a hat, and trust to the bounty of the lookers-on for the means of regaling themselves, so Mr Godfrey Nickleby and his partner, the honeymoon being over, looked wistfully out into the world, relying in no inconsiderable degree upon chance for the improvement of their means. ![]() ![]() There once lived in a sequestered part of the country of Devonshire, one Mr Godfrey Nickleby, a worthy gentleman, who taking it into his head rather late in life that he must get married, and not being young enough or rich enough to aspire to the hand of a lady of fortune, had wedded an old flame out of mere attachment, who in her turn had taken him for the same reason: thus two people who cannot afford to play cards for money, sometimes sit down to a quiet game for love. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Malice by John Gwynne![]() ![]() ![]() The series if certainly fantasy, though with the same grittiness and believably as the Witcher series and Game of Thrones, if not a little less violent. Each book presents its own betrayals, wars, personal battles and development, each with fantastic writing. The over arching story is one of evil vs good, though a little more nuanced than this basic observation. The synopsis (which certainly does not do this series justice), is that you follow the main character Corban, along with his friends and family throughout the Banished Lands. ![]() Being that it is spoiler free, it will be very short and will be discussing 2 aspects: character development and action/war scenes. This review/observation will not contain spoilers though will mention unspecific aspects that you will encounter, with basic stories you will read on the blurbs. The books are incredible and I was strangely left upset when I finished the last chapter. I have to say first of all, that I loved these books and I really hope John writes more, hopefully in this same universe. I finished this series a few months ago with the final release of ‘Wrath’. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Sas bravo two zero![]() ![]() According to Asher, the patrol never actually encountered soldiers, only police and armed civilians.
